Dynamics of the 2014 World Cup's Public Relations and Social Media

Was it a memorable World Cup?

Millions of people across the world love football. I love football, do you?

The 2014 FIFA World Cup held in Brazil has been one of the electrifying tournaments in the history of football, don't you think?

I am one of the greatest football fans across the world and was very excited to watch countries taking on each other in the football field. Thousands of people including myself and surely you were too, using social media platforms to express how you felt about the tournament and matches played.

You and I used and are still using social media, right? Meaning we are citizen journalists contributing towards the reputation of the FIFA World Cup. Public Relations contributes a lot towards the reputation of the World cup because it somehow builds a strong positive perception about. We must remember that as PR people we hold the most valuable asset in campaigns or organisations.

Many countries were in the Fifa World Cup qualification.  I had faith in one or two countries to win the tournament and I'm sure you did too! We relate to football as it brings countries together and experience joy through it.

You and I are public relations people and use social media platforms to post our comments and images to enhance the reputation of the world cup. As we engage in social networks and being citizen journalists, we influence other people to engage and have conversations with us on what they think about Brazil Fifa World Cup 2014 as the hosting country. Public relations play a major role in reputation management in all fields. You have to agree with me on this one. So does social media. Imagine if there wasn't social media, how would people know about updates on the World Cup? Yes, it would be difficult.

I'm sure you now get me when I say Public Relations as well as social media play a very significant part in reputation management. What is your take on this World cup video ?

  1. I am not a soccer fan, nor was I part of all the excitement and traffic on twitter and facebook but I must admit that social media was just on fire during the world cup. My news feeds were always full of score updates and people's opinions concerning the games. So I totally agree that social media had a huge impact in the fifa world cup.

  2. Yes, you are right Nkosazana, the Fifa world cup 2014 was a must-to-watch thing because of people's updates on social media, even if you are not the fan of soccer, but the way people were talking about it, you were persuaded to go and watch, so ALL THANKS to social media and PR

    1. Indeed PR and Social media is the way to go. As we know that the future of PR is digital, we have to keep on being interactive and that was the case during the world cup.

  5. I did have high hopes that the Netherlands would win, but things didn't go as I wished. I must also highlight that the event was exciting and I must admit that I did more retweeting rather than tweeting. In conclusion, the World Cup did benefit from social media, because its growing rapidly.

  10. To be honest with you, I never watched any of the games but I heard it was amazing. Radio stations were hosting competitions, South African celebrities taking pictures in Brazil and being part of the excitement. I guess I missed out on the action. But all thanks to you, I have more insight to what was going on.
